We are happy to announce the second of a series of new Remote Telemetry Unit's.  When applied in conjunction with our Windows based Human Machine Interface and machine level Visual Logic Controller this RTU will offer our customer cost savings, ease of use and an extended control system life cycle.  The W1800 product was developed as an Industrial Grade Mid-range (1 to 64 I/O count) RTU.  Remote user configurable intelligence and a Color Touch Screen has been added to this RTU's capabilities making it a full featured RTU and extending it's I/O counts.  W1800 RTU's use computer standard RS232 serial ports which are normally configured to communicate at baud rates of 600 or 1200 bps.  The W1800 includes the necessary bridging to interface directly to a standard off the shelf mobile Radio and/or dedicated phone line.  The RTU is of current technology and design consisting of robust hardware and firmware.

The initial W1800 RTU configuration offers up to thirty two I/O modules of two I/O channels per module for a total of sixty four (64) I/O.  Each of the 32 Modules may be Digital Input, Digital Output, Analog Input or Analog Output.  The I/O system is made up of up to two Grayhill Open Line I/O Brain boards driving up to two I/O racks per Brain board.   Each Digital Input may be configured to maintain and report back the status of local accumulators for both Starts and Run Times.  Configuration of the W1800 is accomplished from a local Laptop computer using the RS232 serial communications port labeled TEST.  The configurator software is Windows based and is very user friendly. This product has been designed to accommodate Fiber Optic, Cellular and Cable modems, should they become the data communications link of choice in the future.

The intelligent W1800 RTU configuration allows the user to implement RTU local filter backwash or backup logic at the RTU location with a 6 to 10" black and white or color touch screen operator interface.  This option brings the W1800 to a new full featured level of operation.  The I/O count on this version increases to approximately 256.

TELEMETRY COMMUNICATIONS:

POLLED: Computer standard RS232 / RS485 port is used to respond to Master queries using non-proprietary ASCII telemetry protocol.  The protocol used, consists of start characters, master address, RTU address, CRC data security, word count, parity checks, data and stop bits.  The entire communication cycle takes less time than changing one I/O point using Modbus protocol and a PLC.   The telemetry port provides direct serial interface to both standard mobile radios and dedicated phone lines.  An RS485 port is used for I/O communication to the Grayhill I/O systems up to 4000 feet from the RTU.  The master control Computer continuously updates the data from all RTU's, treating missed communications as a Data Fail alarm condition.  The Customer is notified of all alarm conditions immediately by the control computer.

DIGITAL AND ANALOG I/O:

I/O is accomplished using Grayhill Open Line removable I/O modules for AI, AO, DI and DO.  Analog inputs and outputs are available using most standard current and voltage configurations example: 4-20ma or 1-5volts.  Digital inputs and outputs are available a wide variety of AC and DC voltages and isolation configurations.

The W1600 was the first of a series of new Remote Telemetry Unit's.  When applied in conjunction with our Windows based Human Machine Interface and machine level Visual Logic Controller this RTU offers our customer cost savings, ease of use and an extended control system life cycle.  This RTU was developed as an Industrial Grade base line (low I/O count) version of our new series of RTU's.    W1600 RTU's communicate at baud rates of 1200 to 115kbps using Computer standard RS232 or RS485 serial ports.  The RTU is of current technology and design consisting of robust hardware and firmware.

The W1600 RTU offers eight (8) I/O channels which may be user configured as either a Digital Input or Digital Output.  Two (2) of the eight I/O channels may be configured as either an Analog Input or Analog Output.  Each Digital Input or Output may be configured as N/O or N/C.  Each Digital Input may be configured to maintain and report back to the system server computer the status of local accumulators for both Starts and Run Times when a communication is made.  Configuration of the W1600 is accomplished from the Master computer or a local Laptop computer using one of the serial communication ports.  This product has been designed to connect directly to Fiber Optic, Cellular and Cable modems, should they become the data communications link of choice in the future.

QUIESCENT: Computer standard RS232 / RS485 port is used to contact the Monitoring computer using the same non-proprietary ASCII telemetry protocol as the polled operation.  The master computer system is configured for quiescent operation on the serial port tied to the quiescent RTU's and other than an occasional RTU verification waits for event driven communications from the RTU's in the same way a PLC system would.  Event driven telemetry communications should not be used for real time or mission critical operations.

The Large scale RTU of this series is in the field, proving it's worth and already exceeds all known PLC and RTU specifications in capabilities, serviceability, telemetry speeds, I/O counts and user configurability.  The W2000 PC-RTU prices out significantly less than a full blown PLC.  The first Field units were installed in 2000 and have been performing mission critical tasks in a Real Time environment around the clock.
